Milan Fashion Week is always an exciting time for fashion and beauty enthusiasts alike. The runways are filled with stunning designs, captivating models, and breathtaking beauty looks. This season was no exception, with designers showcasing some of the best beauty looks we've seen in years. The runways of the Italian fashion capital showcased punk-inspired hairstyles at Moschino, featuring dramatically spiky looks on its models; makeup artist Pat McGrath applied pastel-colored, faux feathered lashes on models' eyelids at Prada; meanwhile, MM6 Maison Margiela brought indie sleaze straight to the runway with an over-the-top take on eyeliner―and so much more.
Case in point, the runways were awash with bold, daring, and imaginative beauty looks that perfectly complemented the exquisite collections on show. Ahead, BeautyMatter presents the best standout beauty looks from Milan Fashion Week.
Prada
Following its exaggerated baby doll false lashes used in its Spring-Summer 2023 runway, Prada continues its affinity for falsies, this season opting for soft, muted, and vibrant tones of pastel lashes to don models' eyelids. The show, walked by Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, was a new take on Prada's DNA for the modern generation. Miuccia Prada challenged the status quo, producing a collection of "sartorial representations of responsibility." Makeup, done by Pat McGrath, focused on natural beauty, while hair, done by Guido Palau, was simple and slicked down with gel.
Diesel
Diesel often incorporates bold and unique elements into its runway shows. The brand's latest effort to push boundaries and challenge traditional beauty standards included lots and lots of body paint. Backstage at Diesel, makeup artist Inge Grognard painted models in glittery, ice-blue body paint before they hit the runway donned in Creative Director Glenn Martens’ Fall-Winter 2023 collection. The models' iridescent skin reflected off the soft lighting, giving them an extraterrestrial aura that added a unique and eye-catching element to the runway.
It's not the first time that Martens’ infatuation for body paint has been exhibited on the runway; for his Fall-Winter 2022 collection, the designer paraded models down the runway in full head-to-toe body paint that matched their silhouettes.
MM6 Maison Margiela
MM6 Maison Margiela not so subtly made a case for the indie sleaze comeback on the runway this Milan Fashion Week. Backstage, moments before the models hit the runway, the Italian fashion house smudged the models’ eyeliner so it trickled down their faces as if they had shed a few tears. The emoesque look came full circle with hair that was drenched in oil, creating the perfect grunge-inspired look.
Moschino
The bleached eyebrow trend has been gaining popularity in recent years, and Moschino's Fall-Winter 2023 runway showcased it dramatically. The models' bleached eyebrows drew attention to their eyes and made a bold statement on the runway. Although the look is an acquired one, for those who want to make a bold beauty statement, bleached eyebrows could be a daring option. In addition to bleached eyebrows, Moschino paired the look with an equally daring hairstyle―a punk-inspired Mohawk. Hairstylist Paul Hanlon styled models' hair in a spiky, dramatic way that complemented Creative Director Jeremy Scott's punk-inspired collection, which the label described as "aristo-punk flair."
Philipp Plein
At the Philipp Plein show, the eponymous brand delivered a modern take on the classic cat eye by introducing an exaggerated silver metallic eyeshadow applied generously to the upper eyelid. The use of bold liquid eyeliner and strikingly voluminous lashes elevated the overall dramatic effect of the look, making it a fitting complement to the bold and daring collection on display.
MSGM
At MSGM, Fara Homidi, Head of Makeup Artistry for KIKO Milano, successfully achieved a radiant and flawless base for beauty looks at the Italian brand's Fall-Winter 2023 show, using only foundation and face powder while focusing on skincare and the Smart skincare line products. Homidi made it evident that the emphasis is on a natural look, with the eyebrows taking center stage; they are styled upwards and defined with the brands’ Precision Eyebrow Pencil for enhanced expressiveness. Lips, conversely, boast a glossy and luminous finish courtesy of a layer of 3D Hydra Lipgloss. The overall look is complemented by effortlessly styled natural hair, adding to the soft and tidy aesthetic.
Gucci
At the Milan shows this season, individuality was the name of the game. At Gucci, hairstylist Paul Hanlon took full advantage of this trend, offering a diverse array of looks that included a neoprene red pixie cut, two-toned hair, micro fringes, casually placed clips, and messy swept-to-the-side locks that exuded an effortless charm. The "come-as-you-are" looks were perfectly in tune with the mood of the collection.
